How to treat a blister at the toe? (photo)

Doctor's Answer

Hello

Sorry to see that your toe is hurting. From the picture it looks like you have an acute paronychia where the skin around the toenail is infected. This may be due to having an ingrown nail growing at an unusual angle and digging into the skin.

We will need to first examine the area to determine the cause of the swelling. If it is an ingrown nail, we can remove the edge of the nail under local anaesthetic and cauterize the base using a CO2 laser to prevent it from growing back.

You will also need oral antibiotics to treat the infection.

Best regards
