How to identify and treat ear piercing infection?

Doctor's Answers 1

Here are some common signs that can help you to identify an ear piercing infection:

  • You will start to notice localized redness on the skin around the ear piercing.
  • You will experience some swelling, tenderness and a burning sensation.
  • In some cases, you might also feel the urge to scratch it as it does get itchy.
  • Patients also do experience yellow pus discharge.

To treat the infection, antibiotics will be required. For milder infections, your doctor will prescribe you topical antibiotics. Meanwhile, if your ear piercing infection is considered severe or does not reduce and gets better with the topical antibiotics prescription, your doctor will proceed to prescribe you oral antibiotics.

Do consult your doctor as soon as you suspect that you have an ear piercing infection.
