How does having injectable skin boosters regularly affect the long term skin barrier function and potential for scarring?

Doctor's Answers 1

When performed by a qualified doctor using small calibre sterile needles in an aseptic environment, there is negligible long-term negative effects on the skin barrier function. The risk of scarring will be very low.

However, if you have a pre-existing skin condition such as eczema, do let your doctor know beforehand so that a thorough assessment of your suitability and overall skin condition to undergo injectable skin booster can be made. This also applies to those who are prone to excessive scarring such as keloid-prone.

If you are unsure or in doubt, do consult your doctor first before going for these skin booster treatments.

Does HIFU or Ultherapy dissolve fillers?

Frankly, this is something which many doctors debate about. Some insist that there is significant volume loss of fillers after Ultherapy, while some deny such an occurrence. There have been figures thrown around like 10-15% reduction (IF it happens) of filler volume post Ultherapy. In my practice however I prefer to take the safe route and do HIFU first and then about 1-2 weeks later to follow up with the filler placement (if indicated). Why take the risk?

What is the best treatment to get rid of clogged comedones?

Hello Cherry You can consider adding topical agents that contain salicylic acid or retinoid to your skincare regime and you should be able to see some improvement after 1 to 2 months. You may need a prescription from a doctor for the retinoids (Differin/ Retin - A). I will also recommend doing a series of salicylic acid chemical peel for stubborn comedones. Do consult a doctor first to get a proper skin assessment before you start anything. Hope this helps!
