Is it possible to build immunity against fillers?

Doctor's Answers 2

Well, I mean, when you inject fillers in, I would say yes to some extent if your body removes or dissolves away the fillers, so some people actually remove them quicker, so the effect is a bit shorter.

For instance, if we use the same products, you know in my case it might last 6 months but in your case might last one year. It could be the other way round, yours might be shorter because you are younger, and you metabolise faster.

Hi Ashley,

Thank you for the question, and it is certainly a relevant one.

As opposed to immunity, some patients metabolize fillers more quickly than others. It depends on the resistance to degradation by native hyaluronidase (an enzyme that degrades hyaluronic acid found in fillers).

In other words, injected fillers will still have the intended effect/outcome, but your body may burn through the fillers quicker than its expected longevity.

Hope that answers your question.

What are the possible underlying causes of asymmetrical results across the face after using Ellansé dermal fillers?

Asymmetry is a common trait we all share - no person's face is perfectly symmetrical, and this is for a good reason: we would look rather strange if we were. So, to start off, asymmetry is normal, and while we try to recreate symmetry in our sculpting, achieving precise outcomes can be tricky. This can be explained by either small errors in estimation during injections (location as well as the volume of product placed), or it could be due to fat pad asymmetries in the face.

What is the difference in effects between Botox lip flips and lip fillers?

Botox is a neuromodulator - it reduces the unnecessary contraction of muscles by blocking neurotransmitters. This reduces the pull on the overlying skin to which it attaches, thereby reducing what we call dynamic wrinkling - wrinkling associated with movement. Botox can help with static wrinkles too - fine wrinkles present at rest, but might only do so subtly. Botox, therefore, helps with the wrinkles that appear with pursing of the lips - known as barcode wrinkles. Fillers - hyaluronic acid or otherwise - are used to create volume or sculpt.
