Is it possible to get an abortion in Singapore as a foreign national?

Doctor's Answers 1

Sorry to hear about your situation. Foreign nationals are not allowed to get abortions in Singapore. As a non-Singaporean, you can only get an abortion if:

  • You have PR status or you’re married to a Singaporean citizen
  • You have been residing in Singapore for more than 4 months

Do note that worldwide, after 24 weeks of pregnancy, you can generally only get an abortion if your life is at risk, or your foetus has a severe abnormality.

How can I give birth naturally if I am overweight?

In general, there are a few considerations that we will look at for natural birth in overweight mothers: 1. Stage of your pregnancy 2. Size of your baby 3. Position of your baby 4. Presence of existing medical conditions or complications such as diabetes, position of your placenta etc. Of course, if you are in the pre-pregnancy stage and planning for a child with the goal of delivering naturally, then it is highly advisable to kick-start a weight loss programme.
