Is there any way to prevent Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH) when doing CoolSculpting?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi,

Paradoxical Adipocyte hyperplasia is the process whereby the fat treated by fat freezing becomes bigger instead of smaller. It is reported to happen in 0.0051% of fat freezing cases - however , we don’t know about those cases that weren’t reported.

It is a poorly understood phenomenon of fat freezing treatments. It is not even clear why that happens and thus unfortunately there’s no way to prevent it.

It’s probably better to consider newer technologies like SculpSure which scored 94% on Realself Most Worth It treatment Award 2019 and Harper’s Bazaar Anti Aging Treatment Award 2020. I have also devised a new protocol called the Body Trinity (combining muscle stimulating electromagnetic treatment StimSure to strengthen muscles in combination with SculpSure and TempSure) which works well with no side effects.

Is it possible for double chin removal with Coolsculpting to cause wrinkles? (photo)

Hi, As the fat cells are destroyed by cryolipolysis (e. g coolsculpting), some overlying skin laxity/wrinkling may become apparent. Usually as the skin changes itself over time to adjust to the reduced underlying fat cells, the skin laxity/wrinkling will improve and disappear. In the event that it persists after 9-12 months and if you wish for additional improvement, unipolar RF e. g. Thermage, or high intensity focused ultrasound e. g. Ultherapy may help tighten the loose skin under the chin and improve the appearance further. Hope this helps!

How does Vanquish Me compare with Coolsculpting for the lower body?

The main concept behind Vanquish ME and CoolSculpting is quite similar -- their technology is used to destroy fat cells so that they can be eliminated from the body system. The difference between the two lies in the type of technology used. Vanquish ME uses focused-field radiofrequency technology to heat up fat tissue to a point in which fat cells experience apoptosis (cell death). This way, fat is targeted selectively and disrupted efficiently. CoolSculpting destroys fat cells by freezing them (cryolipolysis).
