Is laser or chemical peeling better for treating large pores, pimple marks, and tiny bumps on the forehead? (Photo)

Thank you for the question

Chemical peels are an effective treatment for comedones, acne scars and marks. There are also many different types of lasers in the market which can help to treat comedones, acne scars and marks.

The choice of which treatment to choose depends on many factors, including the patient's skin type, skin sensitivity and concurrent treatment or medications used etc. There are also few studies which directly compare the effectiveness of chemical peels to laser treatment.

Topical or oral medication can also be added on to the treatment regime for better control of the condition.

It is best to see your doctor or dermatologist to discuss the risk/benefits of the various different options and to choose the option that is most suitable for your skin.

Hi there,

What your suffering from is the spectrum of acne vulgaris ( aka pimples ), I would use a combination of both chemical peels plus a picosecond laser (my favourite is PicoSure) to treat it.

The chemical peel I would prefer would have a majority of salicyclic acid content which is able to kill bacteria, unclog pores, and exfoliate dead skin debris and calm down active acne. Modern salicyclic peels are able to achieve the above effects without much peeling or downtime.

After 2 weeks, I would then perform PicoSure to reduce the size of the open pores with the Focus Lens Array, and also reduce the aftermath of the acne marks ( aka post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). PicoSure is also very special that it can flatten active acne pustules immediately with its laser which can be tuned to be very targeted and focused on the pustules.

My patients usually get immediate relief in the next 1-2 days after the above treatments.

Depending on the severity of the condition, oral antibiotics and topical treatments ( like clindamycin) should also be added on to this treatment. A good home care regime designed for acne skin is also important ( I prefer Aknicare and SkinBetter Alpharet Exfoliating Peel Pads).

Hope that helps!

What could cause a persistent painless bump after a pimple resolves, and how can I treat it? (photo)

Hi, Likely you have a papular scar left over by the pimple. Sometimes it may take a long while before it flattens somewhat. If it remains after 12 months, it is likely to be permanent. Papular scars on the nose can be difficult to treat. Treatment options include leveling the scar by shave excision, electrocautery or ablative carbon dioxide lasering. Do discuss with you doctor your expectations and how the various treatment options may offer you an improved aesthetic outcome. All the very best.

What are effective treatments for large pores on dark ethnic skin if chemical peels and fractional C02 laser does not work? (photo)

Hi,From the photo, you appear to have mild acne scars rather than open pores. Fractional CO2 laser should work. Effectiveness may be enhanced with more aggressive treatment parameters albeit at the expense of perhaps more unwanted side-effects such as PIH. Alternatives to consider are Fractional microneedle RF and fractional picosecond laser. It is best you discuss with your preferred aesthetic doctor your expectations and ability to accept downtime for him/her to help devise an individualized treatment plan for you. Hope this helps!
