Can fillers keep my lips moist and reduce the side effects of Isotretinoin?

Doctor's Answers 2

Fillers that are primarily used for the lips are made of hyaluronic acid. This helps in moisturisation and adding volume or augmentation.

There are softer versions of Lip fillers on the market now that aim to primarily provide moisture for the lips.

So yes they can help to keep your lips moist and reduce the side effects of isotretinion, but it might not be a cost effective option as lip fillers tend to be quite costly.

For my patients who do have problems with dry or cracked lips while on isotretinion, I normally would ask them to use a moisturising lip balm or Vaseline cream .

Hope this helps.

They certainly can. Lip fillers are hyaluronic acid based products added to the lips to add volume and hydration. Hyaluronic acid draws in moisture and can hold many times its molecular weight in water.

I normally suggest lip balm and lip ointments for patients who have dry lips from isotretinoin, but skin booster like treatments for the lips can help add hydration as well. If you have thin lips and would like to add some volume or shape to your dry lips, then going with a lip filler would be a great 2-in-1 solution for your problem!

Hope this helps!

Is there a skincare cure for acne in case of post-isotretinoin relapse?

Good on you for doing your own background reading. I was wondering if it could be possible to cure acne without the medication? Taken in isolation, the answer to your question is yes. There are different severities of acne, each responding to different sorts of treatments. If it is acne of a severity level that warranted Accutane in the first place (usually reserved for moderate to severe, failed other types of treatment), then there’s a chance a topical regime may not be good enough. Having said that, hard for me to comment without knowing how severe your acne really is.

What acne scar treatment is suitable for me if I am on Isotretinoin?

As Dr Wu has pointed out, it is generally safe to commence acne scar treatments whilst on Isotretinoin. Personally, 2 main factors will determine the treatment plan: 1) Condition of your skin If your skin is irritated, flaky and sensitive from the Isotretinoin, then it might be best to delay intense ablative treatments till later so as to minimise the side effects associated with such treatments.
