Should I be concerned if a mole is becoming bigger, protruded and painful?

Doctor's Answers 1

Thank you for the question. The most important sign of a mole becoming cancerous is the evolution of the mole or changes to a mole. If the mole is growing quickly in size, and becoming more raised and painful, I would advise you to see your doctor or dermatologist get it checked out.

The common signs to look out for a suspicious mole include:

1. A - Asymmetry. The mole looks irregular and does not appear symmetrical

2. B - Bleeding.

3. C - Colour. If the colour of the mole is uneven eg. darker in some areas and lighter in other areas.

4. D - Diameter. The size of the mole is greater that 6mm

5. E- Evolution. The mole is becoming growing and enlarging.

If these signs are present, you should seek professional medical advice to rule out melanoma or mole cancer. It is important to catch a mole cancer early as the prognosis of melanoma when detected early is very good, while a late diagnosis has a much poorer prognosis.

If you are planning to excise the mole using surgical method, then your alternatives are : 1. Plastic Surgeons (facial, body and burns surgeons who specialize on reconstruction and aesthetic surgery) 2. Facial Plastic Surgeons (ENT surgeons who specialize in facial reconstruction and/or aesthetic surgery) 3. Oral-Maxillo-Facial Surgeons (Oral Maxillo Facial dental specialist surgeons who specialize in facial reconstruction and/or aesthetic surgery) These 3 would be your best bets, do call up to check prices first after googling for a suitable surgeon.

How can I treat a long-standing inflamed bump on my forehead?

I’m sorry to hear that you are suffering from this for the last 2 years. From the pictures, it does not seem to by a typical acne cyst. It may not even have been a pimple right from the start. I would suggest quickly seeing a dermatologist for your condition. There are various ways of removing this lesion which has good cosmetic outcomes. If necessary, he/she may also suggest sending the lesion for further testing depending on your consult. Hope this helps!
