Can a "raised bump" on the face be something dangerous? (Photo)

Doctor's Answers 1

Thank you for the question. There are many causes of a raised bump on the face. These include an acne cyst, inflamed epidermal cyst, or abscess.

If this is due to an underlying infection, this can be dangerous as it can potentially spread quickly.

It is best to see your doctor or dermatologist for a proper assessment. A thorough history and physical examination will be needed to make an accurate assessment of the cause.

What is the cause and treatment for a scaly patch on foot?

I’ve had a look at the picture, as well as had a dermatologist friend look at it. You should visit a doctor/dermatologist to have a skin scrape test (looking for fungus) and to find out a bit more history about the rash. It looks a bit scaly, so a fungus infection has to be ruled out. If it’s a fungal infection, it can be easily treated. Obviously, it could also be due to other common conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis, especially if it runs in your family or you had childhood eczema. It’s unfortunately a little difficult to tell as the photo is too close up.

How can I treat a long-standing inflamed bump on my forehead?

I’m sorry to hear that you are suffering from this for the last 2 years. From the pictures, it does not seem to by a typical acne cyst. It may not even have been a pimple right from the start. I would suggest quickly seeing a dermatologist for your condition. There are various ways of removing this lesion which has good cosmetic outcomes. If necessary, he/she may also suggest sending the lesion for further testing depending on your consult. Hope this helps!
