Hello,

Children should grow older and be certain that they have irreversible gender dysphoria before undergoing transition.

What causes gender dysphoria?

It is indeed unfortunate that the causes of gender dysphoria are not well understood at this point of time. I am inclined to think that there are multiple causation factors that can be considered. First, medical explanations. Fluctuations or imbalance in hormones during pregnancy may predispose to the development of gender dysphoria. There are links that have been found between transgender identity and brain structure. Brain structure of transsexuals seems to be intermediate between men and women. No specific gene for transexuality has been identified so far.

Should I stop taking anti-depressants?

Thank you for sharing your story with us. It appears to me you may have eating disorder with co-morbid depression. Both conditions can be aggravated by stress and both need to be treated. It will be good if you can carefully recall all the treatments that you have received over the years and write down all down. If you have been admitted to hospital, you can also refer to the discharge summaries that you have received from the hospital. You can create two columns, 1 for the type of treatment (including medication) and the other for the response that you have following that treatment modality.
