Should I see a dermatologist or aesthetic doctor for hormonal acne, facial eczema and PIH?

Great question. I can only give you my personal opinion, and attempt to break it down for you.

For starters, there’s no such thing as a doctor who “specializes in laser treatments”. Yes, there are courses that doctors can take to acquire the license with different types of laser treatments, but essentially any doctor can take them in Singapore.

This leaves us with dermatologists and aesthetic doctors.

In Singapore, both groups do skin-related aesthetic procedures, such as lasers, botox, treating lines under the eyes, and PIH.

Both also manage problems like acne.

However, I’d visit a dermatologist in this instance, if I were you. Why? It’s because they are the experts at treating skin problems such as facial eczema, and will be better able to advise you on how best to manage it, taking into consideration that you want to go for aesthetic procedures too, which could aggravate the condition. (I’d probably hold off the aesthetic procedures until the facial eczema is properly treated, and well under control).

Is the laser treatment for PIH the same as for mole removal?

Hello Maine Thank you for your question. Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) or post inflammatory erythema (PIE) from acne is usually treated with q-switched laser or long-pulsed laser. You can expect gradual lightening of the marks with repeated treatments. You can also combine laser treatment with topical retinoids and chemical peels for better results. There shouldn't be any scabbing from treating PIH or PIE. Moles are usually removed with an ablative laser such as the CO2 or erbium laser. Hope this helps!

Is laser treatment effective for getting rid of small and skin-coloured bumps on my skin? (photo)

Most of the bumps on your picture appear to be little keratotic growths of the skin. These are indeed effectively removed by lasers which can carefully singe them off. Other growths, such as sebaceous hyperplasia, syringomas, milia seeds, etc can also be effectively removed with the appropriate lasers. These growths aren't caused by clogged pores; they're usually due to age, UV exposure, or just regular overgrowth of certain components of the skin. Exfoliation and acidic toners/retins can help to reduce the occurrence of these growths but will not get rid of the existing ones. Cheers!
