Should I see a GP or dermatologist for forehead and chin acne in Singapore?

Doctor's Answers 1

Any dermatologist or GPs with an interest in acne/skin will be able to manage and treat your acne.

It can be variable how much you pay, depending on the type of treatment offered (with type of treatment again being dependant on the severity of your acne.)

Do I need to see a dermatologist for itchy, red patches on my face?

Thanks for question. It does sound like you are having some jawline acne. I do see this very often in women and this is usually related to hormonal factors. The acne breakout commonly occurs around the mouth and on the jawline areas. You have also described itchy, dry and flaky red patches on the cheeks and eyelids and this sound like possible eczema on the face as well. This can be due to underlying sensitive skin or can be aggravated by use of harsh products. I do think that it would be good for you to see the dermatologist to get both conditions attended to.

Does 2.0% fusidic acid help to clear up cystic acne? Are there any side effects (such as more breakouts)?

I would stick to Epiduo and Oratane (please complete the course as well). I would not recommend topical Betamethasone and Fusidic Acid as they are not recommended 1st-line treatment options for acne at all. There are other topical antibiotic creams to consider that are more effective against the bacteria in acne such as Clindamycin and Erythromycin. For cystic acne, sometimes it may need to be extracted/ drained and injectable steroids would be more effective at arresting the inflammation and swelling as opposed to topical creams. Hope that helps. All the best!
