Should I see a podiatrist or dermatologist for a toe nail injury? (photo)

Doctor's Answer

It is common for a traumatic injury to the nail to result in a blood clot under the nail. This can lead to a separation of the nail from the nail bed and cause the nail to detach.

The new nail will usually grow out gradually but nail growth is very slow and it may take about 9 months for a new nail to completely regrow.

You can give it a bit of time to see how the regrowth is. If, however, you have any concerns or noticed any abnormal regrowth of the nail, you can see your dermatologist for a proper examination and assessment.
