The tests for GI parasites include microscopic inspection of stool specimens or tissue samples. The stool specimen method can easily be done at any GP clinic and your family doctor will be able to advise you further on how to get a representative sample from your stool.

The tissue method usually involves an endoscopy examination either through your mouth or through your bottom and they are done as part of the work-up process of your digestive tract problem. To do this, you will need to engage a digestive specialist.

The cost for a simple stool test is low in most centres and should be around $50 or so. The cost of endoscopy ranges from approximately $800-2500 and depends largely on the examination approach and the findings.
