Should I be worried if my urine test shows a higher PH and lower specific gravity than normal?

Can a urine test analysis reveal STDs like trichomoniasis?

One has to be careful in interpreting the urine analysis. To be accurate it has to be a clean mid-stream urine specimen. This may be difficult to collect at times. What happens very often is the urine will pick up White blood cells which are part of a vaginal discharge and gives the false impression that it is a urinary tract infection. A specific test for vaginal infection must be done if there is an associated abnormal vaginal discharge. The Trichomoniasis comes from the vagina rather than from the bladder.

When does a doctor order for urine cytology to be done and what is it good for?

Urine cytology is useful for patients on surveillance after treatment of transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary tract (e. g. urethra, bladder, ureters, renal pelvis). This is when the urine is sent to the laboratory to be looked under a microscope to detect cancer cells. High-grade transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) and carcinoma-in-situ of the urinary tract is known to shed these cancer/carcinoma cells into the urine and these abnormal cells will be picked up when the urine sample is sent for cytology.
