What anti-aging treatments are recommended for a 40 year old lady who has never undergone any aesthetic procedures before?

Doctor's Answer

Hey Ming Lim,

For someone new in trying to do some anti aging, it can be a bit overwhelming. There are various non invasive and minimally invasive treatments that can help in all the layers of aging. These range from laser machines, ultrasound and other energy devices, as well as botox and filler injections.

Which treatment to choose or start with really depends on the main cause of the aging appearance, as well as your skin type.

For a start, it's really most important to properly start using your skincare (especially sunblock).

You'll find that in your 40’s, despite any preventative measures, your skin will inevitably experience certain hormonal and age-related changes, which may include uneven skin tone, wrinkles, and loss of volume.

This is because your skin and underlying tissue layers aren't producing as much collagen as it did when you were in your 20s. Skin cell turn over is also slower, which results in a duller complexion.

Here are some treatments that are especially popular amongst my 40 year old female patients:

1. Ultraformer: This ultrasound treatment helps to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which reduces skin laxity. The latest Ultraformer 3 can be used on the face and body.

2. Laser treatments: As you get older, certain more powerful laser treatments may be necessary to improve your skin tone and reduce lines and wrinkles. This includes resurfacing laser treatments, such as the fractional lasers.

3. Botox/Dysport injections: Helps to prevent wrinkles and deeper lines from forming, and improves the appearance of existing lines.

4. Dermal fillers: HA fillers such as Juvederm and Belotero can help to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, and contour your face to help your skin look more supple. This is one of the most popular treatments amongst my patients. They also frequently opt for semi-permanent options such as Radiesse and Ellanse for more long lasting benefit.

5. Coolsculpting: If you have excess and stubborn tummy fats, this can help to reduce them.

Hope this helps!
