What are alternative ways to treat enlarged pores and pitted acne scars if Retinol and Niacinamide did not work? (photo)

Hi,

If those therapies failed to give you adequate results, you can consider energy-based skin resurfacing techniques for further improvement.

These include :

  • fractional CO2 lasering
  • fractional microneedle RF
  • fractionated picosecond lasering

Your preferred aesthetic doctor will help assess your suitability for those various procedures. He will advise you on the best option based on costs, expectations and tolerability of downtime.

Hope this helps!

Retinol and Niacinamide work to control acne and can treat superficial pigmentation. Pitted acne scars can be treated using the methods that Dr Chin has described above.

It does look like you have some rolling scars as well and this is best treated with subcision, with or without dermal filler placement.

Subcision works by manually freeing up the scarring that is tethering/ pulling the skin down.

Subcision can be combined with the above mentioned energy based treatments. Acne scars are best treated with a variety of methods depending on the type of scarring, skin type and downtime.

wishing you all the best in your journey!

How can I get the best results for my acne scars and large pores? (photo)

For acne scars and large pores, there are various treatments than can be used including chemical peels and laser treatments. The fractional laser is good treatment option for depressed scars. Usually 3 to 4 sessions may be required and the expected improvement is estimated at about 30 to 50%. There may be a downtime of 3 to 7 days with this treatment. In some cases, this can be combined with subcision for some of deeper acne scars. It will be good for you to consult your doctor for a proper examination to advice you on the most suitable treatment options for you.

Are there any topical products that can help with pitted acne scars, or must I opt for fractional laser treatment? (photo)

Hello Bemme Thank you for your question. You can try topical retinoids (retin A/ differin) which will help with mild acne scars, acne control, skin texture and oily skin. Use it at night for 1 to 2 months, and you should be able to see some results. However it is not enough to shrink your pores. A fractional resurfacing laser or microneedling fractional radiofrequency treatment can be done in combination for better results and more severe acne scars and uneven skin texture. It will also improve small to medium sized pores. Speak to a doctor to find out more. Hope this helps!
