Sorry to hear about your breakouts. Firstly, I would like to stress that a severe acne breakout is a medical problem and should be seen and treated by a doctor. Many GP/dermatologist/aesthetic clinics in Singapore are able to treat acne with appropriate medications and skincare. If your skin is truly affected by a fungus, you will need medical-grade products e.g. ketoconazole shampoo/wash (commonly known as Nizoral in Singapore). Your doctor will be able to advise you on how often to use this and potential side effects e.g. skin dryness/sensitivity etc.

As for topical over-the-counter products and washes, they may be used as maintenance therapy but I generally do not use them to treat active acne. Products with exfoliating agents such as AHA/BHA/PHAs e.g. salicylic acid (BHA), gluconolactone (PHA), or tea tree oil (anti-microbial properties) may be useful.

What are the causes and treatment for back acne?

The problem you have just described is not uncommon and I have seen many patients with truncal acne which can sometimes be rather stubborn or persistent. It is true that sometimes, acne-like lesions on the trunk can be due to a fungal infection. The appearance can be very similar to acne. At times, you can even have both present at the same time. A fungal scraping can help in confirming the diagnosis. It is difficult to tell from the description if your condition is predominantly due to acne or a fungal infection.

How much recovery can I expect for my acne scars? (photos)

1) What can be done to cure my acne scarring? There are several options, such as carbon dioxide laser resurfacing, Infini needling radiofrequency, and subcision. A combination of techniques is usually necessary, and I always combine different treatments. 2) What percentage of recovery can I expect on average? That will depend on your skin. anything between 50-70% after 3-5 sessions is realistic. 3) How much would it roughly cost? That will depend on the treatment option. A rough gauge would be anything from $2,000 - 4,000.
