What are methods to quickly get rid of a pimple apart from a cortisone injection? (photo)

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi,

While a quick fix is often requested for by patients, it is best that acne inflammation be controlled over a longer term rather than temporarily suppressed with cortisone injections which may cause unwanted side effects such as skin thinning and whitening.

Methods to control acne inflammation include topical benzoyl peroxide, tretinoin, adapalene as well as oral medications such as antibiotics and isotretinoin.

Realistically, it will take at least 4-6 weeks of treatment before clinical results are seen.

Do refer to the Acne section to learn more about the treatment options for inflammatory acne.

Hope this helps!

What are the causes and treatment for female adult acne?

I’m very sorry to hear that – acne sucks. Unfortunately, if I had to hazard a guess, clear skin all your life and a sudden onset of bad acne and big pores at the age of 29 sounds like a classical case of adult acne, where your sebaceous (or oil glands) go into overdrive. Adult female acne is defined as acne that develops after 25 years of age. There are two main causes: 1. Overactive hormones (hyperandrogenism). Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one possible cause. PCOS’s symptoms tend to be mild at first.

How to remove cyst on cheek? (photo)

It would be best to get that skin lesion examined and treated as soon as you can. Treatment is aimed at treating infection and resolving the inflammation as the sequelae would be scarring. Depending on the examination, treatment can include coverage with antibiotics, injection to minimize inflammation, drainage of the lesion and surgical excision. I do not think tea tree oil would do much in the treatment of this condition. Hope that helps. All the best.
