What are possible causes of a sudden eczema flare in a 5 year old child who never had eczema before? (photo)

Doctor's Answer

There are many reasons that can trigger an eczema flare. Common triggers include:

1. Contact with irritants e.g. harsh soaps, detergents

2. Skin infection. Staph aureus infections can aggravate eczema

3. Persistent scratching

4. Environment. Dry, hot and sweaty conditions can aggravate eczema.

5.Allergens. Some products can cause an allergic reaction ie allergic contact dermatitis when applied to the skin, leading the development of eczema.

6. Stress

Do see you doctor or dermatologist for a proper assessment of the eczema if it not better or persistent.
