What are possible causes of lateral foot pain when walking and weight bearing?

Doctor's Answer

Thanks for your question and I am sorry to hear about your symptoms. There can be different causes for foot pain after running, including plantar fasciitis, tendon overload and even stress fractures.

If your pain is worsening with weight bearing and walking, it could be any one of these that I have mentioned and certainly it sounds like you need this to be assessed.

If it is quite intense, my suggestion would be the ED where they can perform an X-ray to determine if there is indeed a fracture.

Alternatively, you could go and see an MSK/Sports Physician who, in addition to getting an X-ray done, can provide you with a detailed clinical assessment and a ultrasound assessment of the foot. Treatments might include pain killers, crutches, a aircast boot and offloading of the foot

I hope this helps.
