What are the long term effects of threadlifts over a 10 year period, and will skin elasticity and collagen be affected?

Doctor's Answers 4

Thank you for question.

Our body stops producing collagen in our mid to late 20's. Then, around age 30, our collagen production begins a long, unyielding decline. After age 30, our collagen level drops 1%-2% every year. By age 40, we have lost 10%-20% of our collagen stores.

This is why we need to increase collagen stores to combat the slow depletion of collagen. We can increase collagen stores through threadlifts, HIFU and Radiofrequency treatments.

Contrary to popular belief, threadlifts do more than just reposition tissue.

Threadlifts increase collagen production.

There are many types of threadlifts. One common type is Silhouette Soft. https://silhouette-soft.com/technology-of-silhouette-soft/

It works by immediate tissue repositioning and gradual tissue regeneration through stimulation of fibroblasts to produce collagen.

Hope that this helps!

Thank you for your question.

As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and collagen. Threadlift reverse the process by mechanical lifting and restoring volume loss by stimulating collagen production.

You are certainly right that it is non-permanent and the longevity usually depends on the type of threads used.

To answer your question: the skin's elasticity and collagen production will not be affected by having multiple threads over 10-20 years, but it does happen naturally with aging process.

I would suggest to combine different type of treatment modalities, depending on what suits you best over the course of 10-20 years. Do discuss with your doctor to decide on what treatment works for you. I hope this helps.

Thank you and all the best.

Vincent

Hi Ms Cny,

In the traditional sense of the word, threadlifts should not affect superficial skin elasticity too much - these threads are used for fat re-positioning and are placed deeper to pull at and move fat to counter the effects of volume loss as we age.

Other more superficial thread procedures, such as smaller, finer threads placed just under the skin, do have a more direct impact on the elastin/collagen production in your skin, and as mentioned by my colleagues, they do positively impact the skin by promoting collagen production. This can help to blunt the decline in skin quality over the years as age takes its natural path.

The type of threading procedure selected for each individual varies, and a thorough consultation is advised. If your concern is skin's elasticity and overall quality, there are other procedures that can more effectively target the issue.

Cheers!

Shane

How effective is fractional Co2 laser vs Infini RF for acne scars?

Good questions! I agree with Dr Chua’s reply on the pros and cons of Fractional CO2 lasers versus Infini RF. In addition, I would like to address your question on the ideal length of time between subcision and Infini RF treatments. The ideal interval between treatments is 4-6 weeks. This is to allow for adequate skin recovery. Hope that this answers your questions!

Is PRP injection available for acne scarring in Singapore?

PRP at the present moment is not available in Singapore. It does help with acne scarring though, and you might have to go to neighbouring countries to do the treatment (including Malaysia). Having said that, you can consider Rejuran/skin boosters/microneedling that can help in a similar fashion. Your 2nd question on which is better — it depends on the severity and type of scars. But usually Fractional laser is the backbone of laser therapy. So consult your doctor early to discuss the available options.
