What are the possible effects on the scalp as a result of steroid injection for keloid scars?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi,

If the keloids are on the scalp and treated with intralesional steroids, potential side effects include localized atrophy over the site of injection and infection. These side effects may be minimized by administering the appropriate amount and dose of steroid, good injection technique and ensuring that the treatment is performed in an aseptic setting.

If the keloids are not located on the scalp, then treatment with intralesional steroids will have no distant side-effects on the scalp.

Hope this helps!

Is it possible for TCA CROSS to cause keloid scars?

Hi,Yes, TCA cross uses high concentration of Trichloro-Acetic acid (TCA) to injure the skin to cause subsequent skin inflammation, healing and scar improvement. If incorrectly applied or applied in excessive amount, the TCA may indeed cause excessive skin damage resulting in additional scarring including keloid scars. As with most aesthetic procedures, your doctor’s competence and experience will reduce potential side effects to the minimum. Hope this helps!
