  3. stimulating laxatives
  4. stool softeners
  5. and rectal suppositories

Common side effects of laxatives include:

  1. bloating
  2. skin rash
  3. cramping
  4. diarrhea
  5. nausea
  6. thirst

Laxatives are not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Overuse of laxatives can result in the intestines losing muscle and nerve response, which can lead to dependency on laxatives to have a bowel movement. Talk with your doctor before using any laxative.
