TCM Herbal prescription is customised according to an individual’s body constitution. It consists of several herbs combined together to nourish and balance the body, especially the kidneys, spleen and liver which regulate the reproductive organs.

Acupuncture treatment which involves inserting needles at the acupoints along the meridians, regulates the flow of qi and blood and balance yin and yang in the body. It serves to tonify where there is deficiency, drain where there is excess, and promote free flow where there is stagnation.

Physician will monitor your progress, and modify the treatment according to how your body responds to the prescription or acupuncture. Dietary and lifestyle-related advice will also be given to complement the course of treatment.

TCM treats holistically. Treatment does not only focus on a particular fertility-related problem, it also improves all systems of your body and mind.

If you sleep well, have a good appetite and digestion, feel energetic and have a healthy sense of self, then all systems will work efficiently, including your reproductive system.

Is IVF or IUI the best treatment for infertility?

Thanks for the D2D. Both methods can be effective, but a lot depends on your medical condition and the causes of your subfertility in the first place. IUI is relatively simple, less invasive, less costly and less time-consuming, but the success rates are lower. Certain existing conditions make IUI less favourable, for example if your husband’s sperm count and quality are low, or if you have 1 or both fallopian tubes blocked. IVF gives you the best chance of getting pregnant, but it demands more of your time and effort, is more invasive and costly, and most ladies find it more stressful.

How do TCM physicians diagnose infertility?

Hi Zhen Yi, Thanks for the D2D. If, despite regular unprotected intercourse, pregnancy does not occur after six months to a year, then the couple may be facing fertility problem. It is an increasingly common problem in modern societies, affecting 10-15% Singaporean couples. If you are unable to conceive after 6 months to a year of trying, it is better to seek medical evaluation and help. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles, we understand the body as an organic whole where the internal body is in tune with one’s social and external environment.
