What are the treatment options other than fusidic acid (Fucidin) for painful scalp abscesses? (photo)

Doctor's Answer

Thank you for the question. Fucidin cream and ointment are topical antibiotics and are a good treatment for minor cuts or wounds.

If the wound infection is more severe, a course of oral antibiotics will often be needed to control the infection.

If there is an underlying abscess ie. there is a collection of pus underneath the skin, then it is important to get the abscess drained and the pus removed as the abscess and infection can continue to spread even when oral antibiotics are on board.

It is advisable for you to see your doctor for a proper assess if the infection is not getting better.
