I have just given birth for the first time about 2 months ago. I had stitches done and I could feel that my wounds have healed as I don't experience any pain/discomfort anymore. However, I noticed that my vaginal opening is a lot smaller now and the placement of it now is much closer to where the urethra is. I'm too scared to even put a finger in it now.

A few days ago my husband and I tried intercourse for the first time after birth but he couldn't get his penis in and it felt a bit painful. I am not sure if it was due to me being too nervous or if the hole is just too small now.

Is this normal? Any solutions? If the hole is in fact too small now, is it possible for it to still stretch naturally during intercourse? Thanks!

Hi!

I suggest to have it looked at by your obstetrician, just to make sure that there is no abnormal healing or scarring.

For some women post first delivery, there is a bit of discomfort after the first few attempts at intercourse.

This should generally resolve with time. I suggest to go slowly, and use plenty of lubricant.
