How do I know if my fatigue warrants a trip to the doctor?
Thank you for sharing your tiring experience for the benefit of others. Fatigue is really a condition that can be difficult to get to the bottom of, but it is one of the common conditions seen by the GP. From experience, most of the patients with fatigue who see me actually do not have a physical issue. Most of them have dysregulation of their lifestyle: namely: poor eating habits, no exercise, poor sleeping habits, and too much caffeine. Talking to the GP or the nurse counsellor or psychologist could be helpful for these. Or sometimes even getting a personal trainer.
What causes fibromyalgia, and can it be cured?
Ms Lin Xiao Yan has provided an excellent answer already and I’ll try to add to this. Fibromyalgia is certainly a complex condition and we are uncertain what triggers it. There were some thoughts that a viral infection could be the trigger but it’s probably more complex than this alone. Often outwardly you seem completely “normal” but I can assure you that your symptoms are not a figment of your imagination. As Ms Lin mentions, one’s pain threshold can be altered in FM and as a result things that were not previously so serious can become much more significant.
