What could be causes of red rashes that appear after jogging?

Doctor's Answers 1

What you’ve described is likely to be urticaria (or hives), induced by exercise/sweating/heat in this instance. It can occur at any age.

The itchy rash tends to appear on your front, back, and chest, as you’ve described. I believe that the colloquial term for this is “feng mo”.

Urticaria/hives is very common, and usually goes away on its own. If it persists after your exercise, you can see a doctor to prescribe anti-histamine tablets, which are very helpful in getting rid of the itch and rash.

Anti-histamines have minimal side effects, and I always keep a stash of them at home myself.

You could also try taking antihistamines an hour before exercising, which may help to prevent the rash from coming on.

It’s also useful to wear loose, cotton clothes to allow your sweat to evaporate.

If all of these measures do not help, your doctor may consider a fungal scrape test after examining your rash. Occasionally, rashes that appear at skin crease/sweat areas can be due to fungus.

Snap a photo the next time you get this rash! It will be very helpful for your doctor to confirm the diagnosis.

The good news is that hives triggered by exercise tends to improve with time, and many patients find that the problem goes away by itself after about 2 – 3 years.

How do I know if I’m having steroid withdrawal symptoms?

Thank you for posting a question. This is a complex question, which warrants proper questioning and examination by a qualified doctor. Any answer we give here will be difficult to answer your question with proper justice. Depending on your weight, 20mg of prednisolone is usually considered low dose and it is usually not expected to have these side effects especially when the course is so short as well. (perhaps you can consider to see a doctor to check if you have other medical problems) Most of your symptoms are non specific, and as such answers will probably be non specific as well.

Are there any other causes for persistent arm rashes besides eczema? (photos)

Thank you for the question. The photo of the rash can go for eczema. The rash in eczema is usually itchy, and aggravated by scratching. Persistent scratching or reaction to certain creams applied can cause the rash to be recurrent or persistent, so your mother should refrain from scratching as far as possible. If the rash is still persistent despite treatment, you may want to consider seeing your doctor/dermatologist to rule out an underlying cause for the persistence, such as a fungal infection or allergic contact dermatitis.
