What could cause a lump on the penis that causes pain during an erection?

Doctor's Answers 2

There are several causes for this and it has to do with the following:

1. The site of the lump (which part of the penis)

2. The size of the lump

3. The duration the lump has been present

4. Whether any deformities are present

The common cause of a lump under the skin with no ulceration is Peyronie's disease. This is a rare condition best diagnosed by a Urologist. However, even a cancer can cause a lump.

It is strongly advise that the person who has this problem to see a Urologist for a consultation and to sort out the diagnosis.

Yours truly,

Dr Jimmy Beng,

Consultant Urologist

Men in the acute phase of Peyronie's disease almost always present with painful erections and discovery of a new lump on the penis. Men with Peyronie's disease often develop penile curvature and loss of penile length. Seeking early attendance with a urologist is definitely recommended.

What are the risks of receiving unprotected oral sex?

With unprotected oral sex, there is a risk of transmission of STDs, particularly for infections like gonorrhoea and herpes simplex virus (HSV). The throat can harbour the bacteria that causes gonorrhoea and this can spread through unprotected oral sex. For HSV infection, the risk of spread is highest if the person has a history of cold sores and has active blisters or ulcers. The risk of spread is significantly less in the absence of active lesions. Viral warts or HPV infection can spread through oral sex too.

Could I have an STD if I have a rash and pimples on my penis, one day after having unprotected oral sex?

One day is pretty quick for the symptoms you’ve described to appear – so I’m going to work with the assumption that this is not the first time you’ve gone for unprotected oral sex. You have clearly exposed yourself by having unprotected oral sex, so you need to go to an STD clinic ASAP for a screening check-up. If you had sex with your partner after having unprotected oral sex, she should also be screened. It’s important that you do so – STDs can be passed on to your partner and baby as well, if they are not treated.
