What could cause persistent hip discomfort after an accident despite physiotherapy?

Doctor's Answer

Hello there and thanks for your question about hip pain. As with many things in the body, there can be different reasons for pain, including issues with muscles, tendons, joints, nerve and other tissue. Indeed, sometime pain in a particular area can be due to a problem further away such as in the spine etc.

Its difficult to give you anything concrete without knowing more about the injury, where your pain is located and how it is impacting you. Nevertheless, if your pain is ongoing for two months after an accident, I would suggest going to see a Sports/MSK physician or physiotherapist - they can assess you clinically and organise investigations where appropriate. If things turn out to be normal, it maybe that you have a functional issue around the hip that needs to be treated with rehabilitation. In some situations, injection treatments can help and lastly, perhaps even surgical intervention.

I hope this helps.
