I agree with Dr. Chris. It's great if the patients can provide us with information on their previous breast implant surgery. Most breast implant companies would have provided a card which has the information or you can always check in with your surgeon for the details. This will help us to plan the operation.

Depending on your age, you may have had previous mammograms or ultrasound of your breasts. You should bring these along. I usually advise my patients to have a mammogram or ultrasound done before any breast surgeries.

Breast implant removal surgery can be performed with or without removal of the implants. Discuss with your plastic surgeon on the pros and cons.

Many factors will have to be considered including:

  1. the capsule
  2. implant type
  3. risk of ALCL
  4. decision for revision of breast implants
  5. etc.

Similarly, decide if you would want to replace your implants with fat grafts or another breast implant. SIEF (Simultaneous Implant Exchange with Fat Graft) is an increasingly popular option as you replace the implants which are a foreign material with your own fat, which can last forever.

The average cost of breast implant removal is around SGD 6,000 and it ranges from SGD 3,000 to SGD 15,000 in Singapore.

Thanks for your question.

It would be great if you knew the details of your surgery such as the type of implant and whether they were put over or under the muscle.

You will need to decide whether you want to remove the capsule or not and think about whether you would like other procedures done at the same time such as areolar reduction, breast lift, replacement breast implants or augmentation with fat grafting.

The cost of your explant procedure will vary depending on your previous implants and whether you want or need any other additional procedures.

Hope this helps.

As a patient, how will I know whether my wisdom tooth surgery is complex enough that it warrants an OMS surgeon versus a general dentist?

See your general dentist for an initial clinical and radiographic evaluation. Your dentist will decide if the case falls within the scope of difficulty that they are comfortable managing. Different dentists have different levels of experience with removing wisdom teeth surgically, so there is no single cutoff point across the board that will apply to all general dentists. It may be worthwhile having a specialist remove your tooth if there is a high risk of an oroantral perforation or if the roots of the wisdom tooth are in extremely close proximity to the inferior dental canal.

How do I know if my wrist is sprained or fractured?

Fractures usually present with more swelling than sprains, although not always. If an obvious deformity is seen, there is a higher likelihood of the presence of a fracture. The most important investigation to differentiate the 2 conditions is an X-ray.
