Black spots are quite annoying, we call these melasma.

Sunblock is the best way to prevent them.

Once they have started, you can try some special creams to try to “lighten” them, but unfortunately might not work very well.

Other options might include “laser” treatment.

Whether the age spots are melanoma OR freckles OR lentiginous lesions

it is best to get consulted before deciding on the treatment.

Anyhow, the most important is still avoidance of excessive sun exposure, use of sunscreen and some people use whitening creams/substances and oral sunscreen (like Estheshield) can be useful to reduce sun-exposure damage.

It is in fact quite common to develop pigmentations on the face especially for Asian skin types, and from middle age onwards.

"Age spots" are often described by patients for dark brown spotty pigmentations on the face, but this is just a layman or generic description.

So first thing first, let an experienced doctor diagnose what exactly are these "Age spots". Are they solar lentigos, seborrheic keratosis, melasma or something else? Then we can advise on the appropriate treatments and prevention measures.

You can read more about the different type of pigmentations in my "Ultimate Guide to Pigmentation Treatment in Singapore".

Hope this helps!

Cheers!

How effective is fractional Co2 laser vs Infini RF for acne scars?

Good questions! I agree with Dr Chua’s reply on the pros and cons of Fractional CO2 lasers versus Infini RF. In addition, I would like to address your question on the ideal length of time between subcision and Infini RF treatments. The ideal interval between treatments is 4-6 weeks. This is to allow for adequate skin recovery. Hope that this answers your questions!

Is PRP injection available for acne scarring in Singapore?

PRP at the present moment is not available in Singapore. It does help with acne scarring though, and you might have to go to neighbouring countries to do the treatment (including Malaysia). Having said that, you can consider Rejuran/skin boosters/microneedling that can help in a similar fashion. Your 2nd question on which is better — it depends on the severity and type of scars. But usually Fractional laser is the backbone of laser therapy. So consult your doctor early to discuss the available options.
