What is the cause and treatment for a scaly patch on foot?

Doctor's Answers 1

I’ve had a look at the picture, as well as had a dermatologist friend look at it.

You should visit a doctor/dermatologist to have a skin scrape test (looking for fungus) and to find out a bit more history about the rash.

It looks a bit scaly, so a fungus infection has to be ruled out. If it’s a fungal infection, it can be easily treated.

Obviously, it could also be due to other common conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis, especially if it runs in your family or you had childhood eczema. It’s unfortunately a little difficult to tell as the photo is too close up.

The fact that it’s been recurring for 2 years would make me more inclined to refer you to a dermatologist. The NSC would be a good place to start.

Cheers

How can I prevent scarring due to scratching itchy wounds? (photo)

Hi, It must be difficult to cope with the itch and scarring. The bumps do look quite extensive on the shin. You are correct in recognizing that the constant scratching and picking at the lesions is causing it to worsen. It is important for you to refrain from doing this as far as possible. Simple measures like doing a cold compress to area can help to relieve the itch. I do advised you to see your dermatologist/doctor to help you manage the skin condition better. There are treatments that can help the bumps settled faster and improve your condition. eg.

What are the causes and treatment methods for post inflammation hyperpigmentation with hair growth and itching?

The photo is not so clear, but it appears that you may have used too much topical steroids on that patch of skin. This can result in skin thinning (atrophy) and hair growth. You should stop using any topical steroid creams, and use regular moisturisers. I’d strongly suggest seeing a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis.
