What is the most effective TCM treatment method for infertility?

Doctor's Answers 1

Herbal medication and acupuncture are the two effective methods to treat infertility.

TCM herbal prescription is customised according to an individual’s body constitution. It consists of several herbs combined together to nourish and balance the body, especially the kidneys, spleen and liver which regulate the reproductive organs.

Acupuncture treatment involves inserting needles at the acupoints along the meridians. It regulates the flow of qi and blood and balance yin and yang in the body. It serves to tonify where there is a deficiency, drain where there is excess, and promote free flow where there is stagnation.

Clinical practice has shown that treatment boosts fertility by improving the quality of egg and sperm, regulating ovulation and facilitating implantation.

How does TCM or acupuncture help with hair loss?

Thanks for your query and interest in understanding the science behind TCM for your hair loss problems. I will attempt to generate a few scenarios to better answer your question. Firstly, if your hair loss results from menstrual irregularity or postpartum, there is usually a hormonal imbalance associated with the signaling of hair follicles and thus the hair growth cycle, I. e. rate of hair loss is higher than rate of hair growth thus the observance of net hair loss. This in TCM is translated to the main hormone producing organ system- the “Kidney” system.

Should I unblock my fallopian tube before IVF?

Sorry to hear about your previous history of ectopic pregnancies. This has some relevance since the conditions that lead to an increased risk for ectopic pregnancy are likely to affect both tubes in the pelvis, rather than just one side (since both tubes are connected to the uterus within the pelvis). Some of these conditions include infection, inflammation due to endometriosis, or could be related to surgery. Surgery to correct the blockage has been available for many years. This consists of microsurgery which can be performed through keyhole or laparoscopic surgery.
