What should I do to treat Athlete’s foot?

Doctor's Answers 1

Athlete's foot is a fungal infection of the feet and is a common cause of scaly, itchy rashes on the feet.

Feet eczema can also present with itchy scaly rashes on the feet and the rash can look quite similar to fungal infection. If in doubt, a fungal scraping can be ordered and this is a useful test to identify the presence of fungus and confirm the diagnosis of a fungal infection.

For the treatment of fungal infection of the feet, it is important to keep the feet dry as the fungus likes to grow in a moist environment. Topical over the counter (OTC) anti-fungal creams can be used to treat the fungal infection. In some cases which do not respond to topical medication, oral anti-fungal medications can be prescribed by your doctor.

If your feet rash is persistent, do see you doctor or dermatologist for a proper assessment and treatment of your condition.
