What are some lifestyle adjustments I have to make if I have labial hypertrophy?

Doctor's Answers 1

I find that this is a common problem that women with this condition quite often do not seek help for because of embarrassment.

One of the ways is to tuck the excessively long labia minora back into your underwear so that they do not protrude out and get in the way. Some women refrain from doing activities that may cause further discomfort like horse riding and cycling for example.

It is a good idea to maintain good feminine hygiene by washing the area regularly especially after you have gone to the toilet or after a sweaty exercise routine. This would then lessen the chances of vulva infections which is a common complaint in women with labia minora hypertrophy.

If all else fails, women may then see a gynaecologist who is familiar with this condition to perform the definitive labiaplasty operation which is performed as a day surgery procedure. In my experience, this surgery corrects the problem and allows women to pursue an active lifestyle once again.

Where should I go to confirm a diagnosis of PCOS in Singapore?

I agree that seeing a gynaecologist directly might make the most sense as regardless of history taking by the GP, the ultimate confirmatory diagnosis is still ultrasound of your ovaries. They would be better placed to discuss with you on treatment modalities.

Can pregnant ladies do Brazilian IPL?

As correctly mentioned, there is no link between IPL and fetal effect in pregnancy. In my current practice, I advise my patients to consider IPL/Laser/Aesthetic treatments only after pregnancy and breast-feeding. Hope that this helps!
