What should I do to resolve blisters after laser skin resurfacing?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi,

I would recommend you to consult your doctor immediately should you develop blisters following laser skin resurfacing. He will determine if the blisters are :

  • due to the treatment itself (sterile)
  • due to secondary bacterial
  • due to even viral infection.

Treatment will help to eliminate the cause. It will allow the skin to heal under optimal condition i.e sterile and moisture-controlled condition.

Prevention of secondary infection is also critical to allow the blisters to heal quickly. Thus it will tend to eliminate any further complications that may cause additional scarring.

Hope this helps!

What are the pros and cons between different skin resurfacing treatments?

It really depends on your concerns and skin condition that you are seeking treatment for. If it is for acne scars, then generally I would go for the stronger fractional Ablative lasers (such as the CO2 Fractional Lasers) that can penetrate deeper into the skin and break down the scar tissue more effectively. Other Ablative technologies to consider would be the Erbium lasers, Fractional RF and Microneedle RF devices. From my understanding, both Tixel and Acnexel are similar to each other and does not penetrate deep into the skin like the other stronger fractional devices as mentioned earlier.

Which sunscreen is best suited for post laser skin resurfacing?

Hi there, Sunscreens that are best suited for post laser resurfacing are those that fulfill the following 3 main criteria: 1) SPF 30 and above (adequately protects against UVB which causes redness and sunburns) 2) PA +++ (adequately protects against UVA which causes pigmentation 3) Minimally irritating as the skin after laser resurfacing tends to be sensitive; pure physical sunscreens may be less irritating compared to chemical sunscreens. Many international sunscreen brands will have a product that fulfills these 3 main criteria.
