What STD screen should I go for after unprotected anal sex?
I’m an 18 year old female who is sexually active. Recently, I had unprotected anal sex. After two weeks, my rectum and butt cheeks started to itch, and it's been more than a week now. Which STDs am I at risk for, and which STD screen and tests should I take? Please do help.
Unprotected anal sex is a very risky form of sexual intercourse. It puts you at higher risks for the different Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). You are also at a higher risk for HIV infection as compared to vaginal or oral sex.
I would highly discourage you from taking part in unprotected anal sex. Please use a condom if you do want to engage in anal sex.
If you do happen to have had unprotected anal intercourse, i would urge you to do the following tests:
- Hepatits B antigen and antibody
- Hepatitis C antibody
- Herpes PCR (rectal swab)or IgG
- Chlamydia and gonorrhea PCR rectal swab
Please speak to your doctor and provide your detailed sexual history so that your doctor will know what is the best screening for you. Make sure you find a doctor who will be able to run STD screening tests for you as certain tests are only available at selected clinics or institutions.
