What TCM treatments are available for gastric problems causing bloating and stomach discomfort?

Age: 30 - 39
TCM Gastroenterology
DOCTOR’S ANSWER (1)

From the TCM point of view, gastric problems are closely related to the function of spleen and stomach. These two organs are responsible for the transformation and transportation of the food that we consume. When the spleen and stomach is weakened, it can lead to many digestive issues such as bloated, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach-ache, ingestion etc.

In TCM, the most common treatment for these internal problems would be herbal medicine. Herbal medicines are prescribed according to each patient's body constitution. The TCM physician will first understand your condition, and after looking at your tongue and taking your pulse, he/she will give a diagnosis for your condition.

The TCM medicines which mainly comprise of natural herbs, minerals and animal parts, will be prescribed according to your body constitution to help relieve your discomfort.

For gastric problems, the main aim of the treatment would be to strengthen your spleen and ease your stomach. Some physicians may administer acupuncture as an effective treatment method. The physician will also advice on appropriate lifestyle and diet change if required.
