I suppose we can do a swab test to find out. We take a swab and send it to the lab where they run through a machine to look for the virus.
As far as I’m aware, these are done more in a research setting and we don’t really have a commercial kit for the oral HPV testing
The risk of contracting a sexually transmitted infection (STI) from unprotected sex depends on a few factors. If the sexual partner has had multiple sexual partners and or is high-risk partner eg. commercial sex worker, the risk of contracting an STI will be significantly higher. If you have multiple partners and engage in unprotected sex, the risk will be very much higher too. If you or your partner is having an active infection or having blisters, sores and ulcers at the genital area, the risk of contracting an STI is also increased.
The effectiveness depends on many factors. For it to be most effective, you should take it as young as possible (9years old), before the first intercourse. Also it depends on which country you are in. But overall, it is still a very effective vaccine to prevent against cancer, a devastating illness.
