When do I need to use chewies for Invisalign?

Orthodontics Invisalign

I am on Invisalign treatment, but was not given any "chewies" to use. I saw that other patients were given chewies to use by their dentists during Invisalign treatment. How do dentists decide when a patient requires chewies for Invisalign treatment, and how do they help? Thank you.

DOCTOR’S ANSWER (2)

Hi there!

Chewies are meant for you to bite whenever the aligners are placed back on your teeth. This is to allow better seating of the aligners to your teeth thus moving them in a more predictable and effective fashion. Chewies benefit most Invisalign patients. Do talk to your dentist regarding it.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Kenneth

Hello Z,

Invisalign aligners move teeth into position by gently applying pressure on the teeth. For movement to occur accurately and fully, it is essential that the aligners fit over the teeth well. Chewies are used to help seat the aligner onto your teeth fully.

Did you ask your dentist about whether you need to use chewies? If you have doubts about your treatment it is best to ask your dentist directly. Good patient - doctor communication is one of the keys of successful treatment.
