In general, gastroenteritis is a self limiting condition which resolves within 2 weeks. Having said that, some people may experience prolonged symptoms of bloating or looses stools for another 1-2 week. This may be related to post-infective bowel irritation or food sensitivity. Do consider refraining from diary products and spicy food until you recover. Adequate hydration is important while you are still having loose stools

So long as your general condition is improving and there is no persistent fever or blood stained stools, most people will recover uneventfully without long term consequences. Should your loose stools or symptoms persist beyond 4 weeks, it will be prudent to seek proper advice from you doctor to exclude other more significant conditions. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
