I think for me a good candidate would be someone who is motivated to do cataract surgery.

I see a lot of patients in the course of my career who are very motivated to do cataract surgery because the cataract is affecting them, making life difficult for them. That makes my job pleasurable in a way as I'm granting them good vision and something that they want, so that is one good aspect.

Other good candidates would consider the stabilisation of other ocular diseases.

For example, if they have active inflammation of the eyes or an untreated retina disorder, all these other conditions in the eye need to be addressed and treated adequately before we remove the cataract.

This optimization will make surgery a better success and result in fewer complications.

What are the risks of going abroad for cataract surgery?

You have to look at two things. The most important thing when it comes to the happiness and success of the patient is, The surgeon and The equipment. So of course whether it’s cataract surgery, heart surgery or hip surgery, it is probably dollar for dollar whether you do these things in Malaysia or Singapore. The most important is that you get the doctors qualifications and the equipment.
