Why are mesolipo injections not allowed in Singapore?
Hi, I’ve done mesolipo oversea, and the result is immediate.
I’m wondering why is it not allowed in Singapore? Is it because of side effect, or due to potent contents?
I do know of doctors who offer such treatments secretly in Singapore, but their charges are way too high, hence I did not go ahead with it.
Thank you doctors for your advice.
Thank you for your question. MOHH ruled in 2015 that such procedures and other similar ones grouped under mesotherapy and carboxytherapy had little scientific merit and are disapproved procedures locally. So as of now, there are no HSA approved injectables that help with fat melting.
However the USA FDA has recently approved a western product for treatment of submental fat (double chin). As Dr Winston mentioned, Singapore tends to be more conservative but we can hope that they will make a revision to the guidelines soon.
Please note that the fda only approved for its use in the double chin area, and it is not yet approved for the other areas due to lack of proper randomised controlled trials and possible side effects like nerve damage, bruising, skin damage and lumpy hardness.
Hope this helps.
Actually PPC and DC (the Medicine inside mesolipo injections) are well studied in medical literature. However the dosage and protocols are not fixed.
Also, I heard from one of my mentors that a whole avalanche of medical companies started producing sub standard quality mesolipo drugs which may not have the needed concentration for effective results . So MOH decided to do a blanket ban on it just to protect the patients from possibly ineffective brands.
Nobody really knows the real reason , the truth is still out there !
As a follow up answer, this is because Singapore’s Ministry of Health feels that there is no benefit or proven science behind meso-lipo.
Singapore has a reputation (good or bad) of being very conservative, and as such has chosen the more hard-lined stand of not allowing it.
Similarly, PRP which is widely used as “vampire facial” in neighbouring countries is not allowed in Singapore.
Hope this answers!
