Why do I have to take potassium for my thyroid issues, and what are the risks of taking it?

High thyroid hormones in your blood can possibly cause your body to lose more potassium. But it is not routine advice that I give my patients.

When the thyroid condition is properly controlled, the normal intake of potassium from daily food intake should be sufficient.
