Why do I still get acne in my 40s, and can it be fixed?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi,

Adult acne affects 5% of males and about 10% of females. In female adult acne, hormonal factors may be responsible. Treatment strategies are similar to that for adolescent acne.

Mild acne being treated with topicals. Moderate acne will require additional oral medication such as oral antibiotics, isotretinoin and hormonal therapy in females. A full course of oral isotretinoin over 9-12 months often gives long-lasting benefits for more severe or persistent adult acne.

A thorough assessment by your doctor will help determine your suitability for the various treatment modalities.

Hope this helps!

How can I remove a bumpy keloid acne scar on my chin?

From the photo, it does not look like keloids but rather closed comedones (type of acne). But a closer examination is definitely warranted as the photo is blurred. Treatments include: Topicals such as retinoids, exfoliants Orals to control the hormonal aspect of the condition Manual extraction, cautery etc Hope that helps. All the best!

Can I combine different lasers for red and brown pigmentation in a single day?

It is possible to treat your brown and red acne mark with different lasers in a single day. I would suggest you leave it to your doctor to decide which treatment is the best for your condition. Normally I will control the acne first to prevent new breakouts that may cause red and brown marks. Your acne marks will fade away with (faster) or without (slower) treatment over time.
