In general, lower abdominal discomfort associated with urination is suggestive of an infection of the urinary tract or bladder. Going to your GP to get a urine dipstick test may be all you need to confirm the diagnosis. Uncomplicated infection of the urinary tract can be treated in the outpatient setting most times.

Occasionally, inflammation of a pelvic organ may give you abdominal discomfort when there is any increased in the intra-abdominal pressure. Activities such as urination or bowel opening may aggravate pain from such inflammation. In this case, you may need an ultrasound or CT scan to confirm the diagnosis.

Do watch for any bowel habit change or blood stained stools which may then point towards a problem in your large intestine.

What could be the cause of right lower abdominal pain?

There are many causes of lower abdominal pain which can range from benign and easily treated conditions, to more serious and potentially fatal diagnoses. From a gastrointestinal viewpoint, examples of the former include irritable bowel syndrome, while more dangerous causes include acute appendicitis, inflammatory bowel disease or bowel obstruction. From your brief description of symptoms and its association with urinary frequency and backache, the cause of your pain may also originate from the urinary tract instead of the gastrointestinal tract.
