DxD Admin from Singapore asked a question

Will using the computer or handphone affect my recovery after LASIK?

Dear doctors,

My job requires me to be on the computer for a minimum of 10 hours daily. I wish to get my lasik done asap. Lets say i get my lasik done on a friday, will it be possible for me to start my work again on sunday?

Will long hours on the computer affect the healing process of the post op lasik?

Or should i stay away from all electronic devices for the first week or amount of days?

Please advise, thank you!

Dear JessicaEvans

I usually advise my patients to stay off visually demanding tasks (i.e. computer work, reading etc) right after the procedure (first 12 hours) and to get some good rest.

While most patients are able to recover about 75% of their vision the next day after LASIK, I would usually recommend to take things easy for the first 3 days and return to work on the 3rd or 4th day after surgery.

While engaging in prolong tasks that are visually demanding does not affect the LASIK results directly, such tasks do cause dryness of the eyes and this may slow down the rate of recovery. That is why I advise my LASIK patients to use the lubricating eyedrops provided generously as they not only aid with comfort but can also help to speed up healing.
